Victoria’s. Sound familiar? Yes, they have another restaurant by the same name on the South Trail in Sarasota. Look for a September open- ing...So sorry to hear about the terrible fire at the Sarasota Brewing Company in Gulf Gate, very damaging and will they open again?...Great new renovation for the folks at Antojito’s Cuban Restaurant and dance club on the North Trail. What a fun venue for lively music and now with a full bar they can offer everything you would want, food, drinks, music and dancing!...A new Indian restaurant called Turmeric Reno will open at 1001 Cocoanut Avenue in the old Starlight Room and Rivera Mexican...Godson’s Pizza has taken over the Demetris on Cortez Road in Bradenton. New owner is Philip Chaltis, who is the godson of Gus Sokos,’ the original owner of Demetrio’s, hence the name...Del Taco coming to Manatee Avenue West next to the Boiler Room. They are a successful chain now going head to head with Taco Bell a few hundred feet away, hmmm...
In Sarasota Fiorella Bistro is about to open in the old La Scarpetta at 3809 South Tuttle. Francesco Giovannucci is talented chef/owner of th charming 35 seat ristorante... On the North Trail is the new Fork & Hen at the old Leaf & Lentil. Enjoy hot fried chicken and more with a “Southern eclectic, with our own special spin,” says co-owner Mark Traugutt. Mark and partner Alfonso Duron worked locally then opened other Fork & Hens in Tampa and Orlando before returning home. Best of luck to them.
Downtown Sarasota has another newly named restaurant called Peru 941 replacing the funky named Humany which was the Wild Ginger before this confusion. Peruvian food served here of course...New brewery alert with Inner Compass Brewing opening up at 10503 Technology Terrace (where is that?, Google it!). Meanwhile Sun King Brewery took over the J Dubs spot at Mango Ave. (who took over the Cock & Bull on Cattleman), while Magnanimous Brewery took over Darwin’s Brewery near LECOM Park and Corporate Ladder opened at 4935 96th Street East in Palmetto and 3 Car Garage is up and running at 8405 Heritage Way in Bradenton. All this beer writing is making me thirsty!!!
Olé! A few new Mexican restaurants are opening. On Longboat Key is La Villa near Harry’s Convenience Store and in Holmes Beach is Los Chiludos at 3232 East Bay Blvd....St.Armands has a few new choices including LobsterCraft offering authentic Lobster Rolls and more. The Whiskey Barrel has closed and will be replaced by St. Armands Oyster Bar owned by a group out of New Orleans. The smallest pizza shop ever is at Pizzolo Pizza near the Crab & Fin. Threes a crowd in here!...Also coming out here is Dalmoros offering fresh pasta to go and River Street Sweets.
The Anna Maria Oyster Bar keeps growing as they have taken over the Newk’s Eatery on University near Oak & Stone with another store. They also own the Café L’Europe on St. Armands Circle and they are now doing lunch as well as dinner and will also be doing a renovation in September to spruce things up a bit here. Café L’Europe are celebrating 50 years next year. Wow!...With the expansion of The Riverwalk along the Manatee River in Bradenton, look for another Daiquiri Deck to open here and we hope you will enjoy the new Oscura Cafe & Bar nearby on Manatee Avenue East.
