As it was the beginning of spring season, and with
many religious business owners, nothing much
was open on Sunday and only a few were open on
the Monday, so that may affect your planning.
One restaurant we found and enjoyed for a
leisurely Sunday brunch, was Forager’s Canteen in
nearby Dillsboro. They focus on Farm to Table
from local and state farms, plus the staff were
excellent and friendly. Our server MarySue was
great and had terrific local knowledge. Tiny
Dillsboro had a charming old train line running
through it, with the occasional tourist train from Asheville and was full of history and some great shops but unfortunately we couldn’t enter due to the Sunday closures. Lots of window shopping ensued!
For those who don’t know - there’s a lot to do in the great out- doors of beautiful western North Carolina for all sorts of nature loving enthusiasts. There’s always hiking the trails, soaking up the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway, there’s the increasingly popular fly fishing opportunities, white water rafting, beauti- ful waterfall sites, kayaking, zip lining, antique shopping and the stunning
art scene with
many galleries
and workshops
full of wonderful
arrays of artisanal creations and choices.
Of course Asheville is only a short drive away and has developed and expanded into a buzzing little city with the Biltmore Estate there in all its splendour, more art offerings, museums and workshops of all sorts. Microbreweries have popped up all over the place offer- ing fun and interesting experiences, such as E bike brew- ery hopping tours as well as guided bike tours without
the breweries! More interesting and eclectic restaurants have been established, and the music scene abounds.
At Shangri-La: Merriam-Webster definition - a remote usually idyllic hide- away. The two bedroom two bathroom hillside cabin where we stayed, encompassed all the above with wonderful wide open spaces surround- ed by beautiful trees and high hills. The Greenbriar was very spacious and comfortable with all modern conveniences and good Wi-Fi, a fire pit to enjoy in the cool evenings and the always charming and welcom- ing ubiquitous deck with rocking chairs! The host Diane is an Airbnb Super Host. We had friends there as well, and really loved sitting creek-
