I write about quite a few family restaurants in Taste Dining & Travel, and one that stands out is the Provost Family who own the small and extremely successful Fresh Catch Fish Market & Grill at 7119 south Tamiami Trail in Sarasota (941) 413-7133. Their dream of owning a restaurant started while vacationing in Isla Mujeres, Mexico, a small island off the coast of Mexico. Father, Bob and son Devon became captivated by all the fresh seafood available directly from the fishing boats to the coastal restaurants. This led to the dream of open- ing their market and restaurant seven years ago and voila, a thriving business was born. Bob’s wife Debra and Devon’s wife Lauren join

delivered daily, Tripletail amongst others. Bob and Devon have a great connectionforfreshseafood, including agreatselectionofStone Crabs which are now in season. The lunch and dinner menu are the same, serving from 11am to 8pm daily, closed on Sunday. Daily fea- turesincludeMonday; Corvina,TacoTuesday,Wednesday;Red Snapper, Tripletail Thursday, Friday; Hot Lobster Rolls and Saturday they are “Feeling Crabby” featuring Dungeness Crab and gluten-free Maryland Style Crab Cakes.
While dining for lunch recently I had the Stone Crab Soup and Tripletail and Mahi Mahi sandwich, both were excellent. The menu includes fresh salads, New England style Clam Chowder, Lobster Bisque and Devon’s Fisherman Stew. A variety of starters including Bob’s Baked Oysters and Devon’s Lump Crab Cake, Smoked Fish Spread, Ahi Tuna, Steamed Mussels, Clams or Shrimp; a welcome start to any din- ner. Not only do they sell quality seafood the prices are amazing as well. They have a very nice wine list along with beer and seltzers to enjoy. Try their J Vineyards & Winery Oyster Pairing, featuring one dozen raw oys- ters paired with the elegant and lively Cuvée from Russian River Valley. ‘A classic sparkling offering a dance of bubbles across a complex palate that expertly balances appealing fruit notes and rich nuttiness.’ Great choice for either lunch or dinner. and be sure to choose from their stocked seafood cases for one of the best selections in town.
This small restaurant fills up quickly for dinner and reserva- tions are recommended. There is limited outdoor seating also available. Fresh Catch is a well run operation that has generated a fantastic and loyal following for one reason; they are great!
