You know how it is when you finally find that special hidden gem of a restaurant and it becomes “your place,” causing you to return to again and again? This is the case with Mean Deans Local Kitchen at 6059 26th Street West, Bradenton (941)251-5435 with owners Dean Donnelly and his wife Michele Angell. They have transformed a long vacated space into a great neighborhood bistro and are creating a buzz in town. While not in an area known for having many dining options, it really is easy to find just one block north of Bayshore Parkway on 26th

Street West, in a plaza with lots of parking. When you
first walk through the doors, you will feel as if you have
arrived in a trendy down- town restaurant.
Dean is the Chef here, so he is the creative force in the
kitchen. His recipes are all made from scratch and he utilizes the two large chalk-
boards to showcase daily creations. He has been in the restaurant busi- ness his entire life and has owned restaurants in the past, including Cedar Reef Fish Camp in Bradenton and Venice for eight years. He also bring a vast knowledge of wine, having formerly been Wine Director for Flemings Prime Steakhouse. Michele also owned and operated Cedar Reef Fish Camp, and well as being an accomplished pilot! The restau-
rant seats 130 and serves wine from around the world and craft beer from local breweries, all quality here. A glass of house wine during happy hour is $4, lunches start at about $10, and dinners average $15- 25..
Great news here is that they will be expanding the size as they have taken over the next door Peach’s Restaurant to add another din- ing and events room, expanded kitchen and a new full liquor bar! How fantastic! They will have more seating, private event space (perfect for receptions, business meals, birthday parties, etc.) The craft cocktails will be as good as the food people have come to expect from Mean Deans. Also here is their Big Sip and Lite Bites special which features $7 appe- tizers, two house wines for $7 and $1 off beers served in the bar only from 3 to 5PM. A great deal! They offer the eclectic wine culture people love, including their popular prix fixe Wine Dinners.
Also to be enjoyed is their Sunday Brunch (try the Salmon Benedict) and what would brunch be without mimosas? Michele’s favorite is the Hibiscus and Lavender. “It has a lovely floral aroma and tastes amazing,” she says. I also like their cozy lounge area for desserts and drinks and small gatherings. A gold glitter bar also adds to the funky ambience at Mean Deans Local Kitchen.
