New in Sarasota, Opus is a family owned and operated restaurant and lounge specializing in simple but elegant cuisine and cocktails. They are bringing the flavors of the Western Mediterranean right into the heart of the Gulf Gate neighborhood. Their menu con- tains a selection of small plates, home-made pastas and fresh seafood, as well as a killer wine selection and unique cocktails. Owner/Operator Richard Carney has been a Sarasota native for over 25 years, and has a lifelong passion for food and wine. “The goal with Opus is to draw parallels between the Mediterranean lifestyle and the casual elegance of Sarasota” he explains, “both are similar in climate, proximity to the water and promote a luxurious and carefree lifestyle.” Mr. Carney, with a background in high-end interior design, has created the perfect mood for the space, complete with funky music and provocative artwork. With a rotating cocktail list and a seasonal menu, you can always expect something fresh and new at Opus, and keep an eye out for the opening of Opus Lounge coming soon!

Executive Chef Kyle C.
Harrington’s love of cooking started with his mother Patricia. At an early age his moth- er had him on the kitchen counter
helping with family dinners and baking delicious treats! At the age of fourteen Chef Kyle started working in kitchens as a dishwasher. Watching the Chefs on the line he was amazed at the flow and preci- sion the chef worked with. He took a big interest in food and began to work his way up in the restaurant. At the age of nineteen Chef Kyle moved to Boca Grande, FL to take an apprenticeship job at the Gasparilla Inn, where he trained under Chef Alfons Worcester and cooked for families such as the Bushes and the Duponts. Traveling was the next step in advancing his craft. Visiting Europe, South America, and Asia he worked with Chefs learning different techniques and cuisines. Chef Kyle would soon find a home in Sarasota where he start- ed running and opening restaurants. Recently Chef Kyle met Richard Carney and his amazing family and knew he had found more than just an opportunity. He had found a home! Chef Kyle prides himself on fresh ingredients and tries to source as much as he can locally to pro- vide an amazing dining experience!
General Manager Jessica Lowther began her classical training as a server at Commander’s Palace in 2002, just after graduating high school. In 2004, she accepted a position aboard the American Queen Steamboat along the Mississippi River for the Delta Queen Steamboat Company. Unfortunately, in 2005, she was forced to evacuate New Orleans and begin a new life in Gulf Shores, AL. From there, she honed her serving skills, and moved to bartending and managing at high-vol- ume beach bars and restaurants for over 23 years. She is very excited to to be here in Sarasota with Opus SRQ.
