It will be a tapas-style restaurant in the near- by The Mark condo...A new cigar bar will be in the old Sur La Table on Lemon Avenue while Ionie’s Organic Foods moving to 144 First Street while Evie’s on Main has closed the bowling alley and is putting it another gin joint...
From the ‘back again’ dept. Off the Hook has resurfaced at 2053 Reynolds Street in what was Il Panificio. Chef Wes Duval is back at the helm in the new location and look for his creative cuisine to be front and center once again...Happy first year to Reef Cakes on S. Osprey..Arrivederci to Sophia’s Tuscan Grill in The Landings in what was Anthony’s Deli, could not make it work. Nor could Lily’s Cafe here. Was it the parking or something else?...Hello to Vampire Penguin Ice Cream here and bye-bye to Red Lobster on the South Trail
In Lakewood Ranch Remy’s on Main has opened with Bob and Larry running the show here...Power Meals also on Main Street here is now offering pre-ordered meals, catering and grab and go healthy meals...Big things expected from Roco’s Taco & Taqueria on 45 Cattleman Road at UTC this summer. They are very popular in Tampa and are making some noise coming south.
Back in Bradenton Sapporo Sushi has opened in the Beachway Plaza on Manatee Avenue in what was Denise’s Cafe. Nice transformation, looks inviting...Downtown B-Town has the Sweet Deli Cafe coming into what was Sugar Cubed on 13th Street...Congrats to Dave Shiplett with the recent opening of his new Birdrock Taco Shack in the Village of the Arts. Now at a larger space at 1213 13th Ave. with cool outdoor dining and another live music venue to go with his nearby Cottonmouth. Good job! Nearby Darwin Brewing Company has sold to Magnanimous Brewing out of Tampa. Other brewery news is that Sun King Brewery plans to open at original space of JDubs. Big Top Brewery left its original location and moved into the space of craft beer bar Cock & Bull as it plans a new Fruitville Commons location with Big Top Brewery also taking over Naughty Monk’s Lakewood Ranch loca- tion. Phew, all this makes me want a brewsky...
The ‘Playground South’ building at 1927 Ringling Blvd., off of Main Street and next to a parking garage, has been sold for $2.1 mil- lion and will be restored and transformed into an upscale music venue and social club that will be called SRQUS. Bohemian Delicious on Cattleman near the new Brooklyn Bagels where Limoncello was. This is their second location for Brooklyn Bagels...Breakfast at Victoria’s is doing well enough to have a second restaurant in the old Eat Here in Holmes Beach. Still doing breakfast and lunch here. Lovely owners Elanera and Luigi Raso...Bye to Peach’s in Holmes Beach. That leaves just one left I believe...Looks like Chateau Anna Maria will be opening a second restaurant in the old Chef Rolf’s next to Fleming’s.
Adios to Dix Coney Cafe in Gulf Gate while hello to the Screaming Goat Taqueria who is expanding to the old Kazu 2.0 Well done owner Malin Parker....The new Soprano’s Social Club should have an April opening with a cool wine scene unfolding here...Healthy to Go is open at 6568 Superior while the Shiny Gumbo is now at 2637 Superior in Gulf Gate Check back next issue and there will be at least three new restaurant updates in Gulf Gate, a revolving door for restau- rants here...The

Guerra’s Mexican on Webber and Beneva is open and looks great for a nice market...Coco’s Bistro is open at Fruitville and Honore serving South American specialties...Kelly’s Roast Beef which is big in the Boston area is taking over the old Sweet Tomatoes on University. Didn’t Arby’s try this years ago?...Yard House to open at UTC Center.
