Being from Connecticut, their preferred hot dog of choice is
manufactured by Hummel Brothers. Established in 1933, the name Hummel Brothers has long been synonymous with butcher grade quali- ty meat. Fellow Connecticut transplants will be excited to be reunited with their favorite hot dog once again, and Doggystyle is pleased to introduce newbies to a hot dog that makes them say, “Wow!” And for those who adhere to a plant based diet, they proudly serve Field Roast veggie dogs. Burgers, corn dog nuggets, onion rings, fries and shakes round out the menu at Doggystyle. They are partnered with Door Dash, Grub Hub, and Uber Eats for delivery, and are open Monday through Saturday (currently Mon-Wed 11-6pm, Thur-Sat 11-8pm) to share the hot dog love. In Gulf Gate look for the Screaming Goat Taqueria to move to a bigger location as they take over what was Kazu 2.0. Also here the new Soprano’s Social Club is opening soon with a wine storage, event space and more. Look for a new country & western bar on Gulf Gate Drive a few doors down. Does Tony Soprano know about this? No Badda Bing? In Bradenton the new Arigento Pizza has opened on Manatee Avenue West in what was Brancoto’s Pizza. Here’s hoping they can do better...New owners at Anthony’s Italian in The Landings. More food to eat-in not so many items to go now...Downtown SRQ still sees Cafe Arts in the Rosemary District slow to open, same with Water’s Edge at Social. 481 Gourmet is now open next to Rosemary & Thyme and are serving spirited Italian cuisine. A few doors down The Rosemary will soon open again offering an eclectic menu daily...Back to life is the old Umbrellas now to be Flirt Sushi Lounge aka SRQ Motorsports, a few weeks out from opening...Congrats to new re- launch of the new Bijou Garden Cafe from the owners of Sage. Nice remodel, and past owner JP Knaggs is pleased. How about you Freddy Matson? Also new is the Fire Fresh Grill which took over The Coolinary on lower Main Street. Will they cure the second storey blues here? Nice owner Ty Salvatore. The restaurant will also be the "ghost kitchen" for Barstool Sports in Sarasota and, in addition to being the location where delivery will come from. Look for a full service restaurant here as well.
Also on Main Street welcome the second Mademoiselle Café & Bakery and Pizza ‘n Brew. Next door say good-bye to Wild Ginger and hello to Uchinan still Asian.
Movin’onout...toOspreyisChefRolf NewFloridaKitchen who left his Sarasota location next to Flemings and went south to the Casey Key Resorts Mainland and is now operating here. I hear that good guy and talented Chef Charles at Chaz 51 is doing great at his US-41- Bypass Venice location. Good for him and his family!
Words out that the new Coopers Hawk is doing a brisk biz...Chef David Shiplett of Birdrock Taco Shack is moving toa new bigger location still in the Village of the Arts. Always does a great job on Taste Magazine’s Walking Food & History Tours as does Chef Guy Cannata at Ortygia who is now joined by old friend and talented Chef Bobby Wheeler. Welcome back!
New in the restaurant equipment biz is Steve and Tony Russo of Russo’s Restaurant Equipment supplying all restaurants with quality equipment and service. Life once again in downtown Bradenton’s Italian ristorante scene is Joe Rimer from Pesto who will soon be opening Fusilly’s in the old Cafe di Lorenzo location on Manatee Avenue West downtown. Rumor has it that Angelo DiFiore will be cheffing here...
In Bradenton Beach say au revoir to The French Table and welcome Tahini Beach Cafe in January. The new Fudge Factory doing a good biz on Bridge Street. Wear sunglasses when entering, there is some very bright food products here! Also in AMI sad goodbye to Mr. Bones who closed in September after 30 years. Thanks Charlotte and Eric Mansur for your friendship and business all these years. Looks like a pizza restaurant is going there. Eat Here has closed and I have been hearing about another pizza joint taking over this location in Holmes Beach...Teriyaki Cove is now open in the East Bay Plaza in Holmes Beach. Skilled owners Steve and Loida Merzke are loving Florida and their umpteenth restaurant!
On Sarasota’s North Trail Jack’s Donuts will open soon, I think...On St. Armands Circle the new River Street Sweets is open while LobsterCraft, which has multiple locations in Connecticut, is set to open at 28A South Boulevard of the Presidents on St. Armands Circle. Founder Michael “Captain Mike” Harden said they hope to open by January.
Stiks, formerly Taste of Asia is open and will continue to offer flavors from Southeast Asia, says Nikki Lum-Kleiber, the daughter of Taste of Asia owners Lam and Selina Lum. But the dishes will be pre- pared in a mix-and-match, quick-service style, with vegan and gluten- free bases that can be partnered with different toppings and meat, if you like. Good luck.
In the Southside Village welcome SRQ Cured to the old Gateway to India restaurant on Hillview Street is set to open soon with cured seafood and a retail store in front. A few doors down in the old Blasé Café is Meliora (meaning ‘better’) and good luck to new owners Bruce Pike and Drew Adams from Maryland who will be opening very soon.
